About
It is no secret that the sustainability movement is here in full force. Some of the hype is just exploring how to take advantage of this new brand of green and sustainability, but a good deal of it appears to be because the world is realizing how important the principles are and why we should be doing what we can to help. Fortunately the excitement does not stop at the doorstep of the financial world and there are many ways to get involved in sustainability through your investments.
Green Investing Times is a collection of the information I find about… green investing. I have been interested in sustainable development for awhile and have gotten certified as a LEED AP, but as my interest in finance is spiking so is my interest in green investments. This seems like a great medium to record my findings because like a website, the world of green investing is rapidly changing.

Initially I will dive into the most general information about how green relates to and can be utilized in the financial world and will then move onto more specifics. As I learn more about this myself I will look into more of the specifics of investing in green related enterprises and the different options available to the public. One aspect of this I know I will be researching is green investing funds composed of real estate properties. I wrote a paper a few years ago exploring how green REITs have been shown to perform better (i.e. grow at a faster rate) than the DOW Jones Industrial Average. I will pull this data up and see how well it seems to be holding up since being published.
Since I wrote that paper, many additional investing vehicles related to sustainability have come about and I’m excited to learn more about these too. In particular this is because it seems like the ability of the average consumer to invest in the new technologies is rapidly increasing. People are showing a desire to invest in green and this demand is creating additional options like green bonds. Considering that a green investment could be classified as any investment that involves equity in something related to sustainability, the options are unlimited.
I hope you enjoy reading any of the information I post on the site and find it helpful. Feel free to comment if there is any information you think I would find interesting or if there’s a particular topic that would make a good post. Thanks for visiting and good luck with your own investments.
